Course Title

Diploma in Counselling Supervision

Who is the course for?

This course is for Qualified Counsellors & Psychotherapists who wish to expand their clinical practice to include the supervision of other counsellor’s in practice.

Entry Requirements

  • You must be a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist with at least 2 years post qualification experience or be eligible for BACP Counsellor Accreditation.
  • You must possess Level 4 written and verbal communications skills.
  • You must be currently engaged, or be willing to become engaged in providing supervision for at least 2 counsellors or groups of counsellors in practice. It is normally possible for us to assign practice Supervisees to you; providing you are willing to see these Supervisees charge free.
  • You must willingly engage in external to the course supervision of your Supervision Practice to BACP standards and requirements.

Course Description

The course is highly exciting, experiential, practical and runs on a Thursday evening for 3 hours over 36 weeks; with an additional 2 one day Workshops toward the end of the course. You will engage in 120 hours of contact study which combine the practical, theoretical and clinical elements of the Counselling Supervision Relationship and Process.
You will be introduced to a variety of Supervision models and will learn which model best suits your personal, professional and clinical philosophy and practice. Therefore, this course is not counselling approach specific but is open to candidates regardless of their practice model.
You will also learn how to effectively supervise others in their movement toward becoming effective, reflective practitioners.

The Units of the Course

There are 7 Units to the courses which, if successfully completed, will facilitate your ability to Supervise:

  • the professional framework for counselling practice
  • the counselling relationship
  • the understanding of diversity issues within the counselling process
  • the application of a user-centred approach
  • the development of your own self-awareness within the supervision alliance
  • the application of theory, skills and attitudes in the supervision process
  • the developing self-reflective counselling practitioner

Assessment Methods

Assessment is achieved via a series of assignments which build into a Portfolio of Evidence; this Portfolio is internally assessed and externally verified.

Spring Term for 36 weeks over 12 months
Thursday Evenings 6-9pm

What does the course cost?

£1260 (£1200.00 + Annual Registration Fee of £60.00)
Payable by a deposit of £460 followed by 4 monthly payments of £200.

The Registration Fee provides you with access to College facilities such as the Learning Centre Services.

There are no student concessions available but there is a limited LC&CTA Accessibility Fund which assists some eligible students with the purchase of Core Course Reference Books.

Progression Opportunities on Qualification

All successful candidates will be qualified Counselling Supervisors eligible to practice as such, and will also be eligible to work toward achieving BACP Supervisor Accreditation.
