  The starting HPD in Counselling student group 2007

The Counselling Profession and Counsellor Training is set to be Government Regulated by 2009 which will result in changes to the way in which Counsellors are trained. LC&CTA are preparing for these changes, however, our current Portfolio of Courses appear on the National Qualification Framework. We are also Organisational Members of the BACP & BACPSL.

Introduction to Counselling

A beginners’ course for anyone who works - or is interested in working - with people in the statutory or voluntary sector.

Starts in September and April and runs for 1 academic term (12 weeks): 1 session weekly.

Intermediate Certificate in Counselling Skills

A course which builds on the skills learned during the Introduction to Counselling course.

Starts in September and January and runs for 2 academic terms (24 weeks): 1 session weekly.

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies

This is the Foundation Course which provides entry into professional counsellor training.

Starts in September and runs for 1 academic year: 1 session weekly.

Higher Professional Diploma in Counselling

This course leads to professional qualification as a counsellor. The course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).

Starts in September and runs for 2 academic years: 1 day a week in college, practice placement required, client work supervision and own personal counselling.

Diploma in Counselling Supervision

This course combines the practical, theoretical and clinical elements of the counselling supervision relationship and process.

Starts in March and runs for 36 weeks (1 academic year): Thursday pm during term time and two residential weekend workshops.

Autogenic Therapy Training Course

Autogenic therapy/training is an extremely effective self-help approach to long-term well-being; giving greater control over physical health, improving emotional well-being, enhancing personal relationships and releasing creativity.

Starts Wednesday 3rd March 2010 and runs for 5/6 weeks.

Drama Therapy

The course will develop your understanding of drama therapy and demonstrate its benefit to a wide variety of client groups (i.e. children, those with learning difficulties or mental health disorders). Provides CPD certification from LC&CTA.

The next course will run during the Summer Term (April/May). The course runs for 4 weeks: 1 day a week in college.

Using Puppets and Masks to Enhance Self-Expression

This course is for anyone working in the ‘helping’ professions who are facilitating others who are in distress, in life changing circumstances or in the pursuit of self-understanding.

The 4-week course will take place during either the Autumn and/or Summer Term.

Self-Awareness Development Through Creativity

This is a course designed for anyone who wishes to develop their self-awareness; professionally or personally.

Starts summer 2010 (dates tba) and runs for 5 weeks: 1 evening a week in college plus 'showing' week'. Provides CPD certification from LC&CTA.

Setting up in Private Practice

A 1-day workshop to assist counsellors and psychotherapists to set-up an effective private practice.

Introduction to Mental Health Issues

A 1-day workshop which provides an overview of the Mental Health Act, the use of the DSM IV and explores general Mental Health Issues.

Assertiveness

A 1-day workshop in which we define and recognise the different dynamics of passive, aggressive and assertive behaviours and identify specific barriers to being assertive and develop an awareness of body language.

Assessment & Assessment in Counselling & Psychotherapy

A 1-day workshop for anyone working in the helping professions who are assisting others in distress or in the pursuit of self understanding: teachers, social workers, nurses, care workers.

Women in Danger

A 1-day seminar for any woman and/or anyone working with women in any field or capacity. The seminar explores the various ways in which women are in danger of abuse and violence in different cultural settings.

Working With Women Survivors of Domestic Violence

Following the success of the Women In Danger seminar, this course is for anyone working in the helping professions who are facilitating others who are in distress, in life changing circumstances or in the pursuit of self-understanding.

Abuse in Childhood

This residential weekend workshop is a group experience facilitated in safe and confidential surroundings. The group will concentrate on building trust and set a contract which the group itself will design.

Drawing on the Right

This exciting personal and professional development course will encourage right side brain activity to come to the fore of your experience through the use of painting and sketching exercises.

Starts 5th March 2010.
